Ilam district lies in the eastern region of province number 1 of Nepal. It is a hilly region which has a coverage of 658 square miles. From a religious, farming and educational point of view, Ilam holds the significance of the developing places of Ilam, Panchthar, Taplejung and Jhapa. The pleasant place has lower tropical and subalpine climates at elevations of 3000 to 4000 meters. There are altogether 49 Village Development Communities and Municipalities in Ilam District.
Ilam is the most famous district of Nepal for the production of tea. The cultivation of tea, cardamom, milk, ginger, potatoes, orlon, and broom on a big scale serves as the district's primary source of income. It is also important from a religious perspective. The HHFN intends to improve living conditions in Ilam with our humanitarian mindset and available resources and technology. If you are interested in the positive outcomes, HHFN seeks to achieve through its work, we appreciate you joining our foundation. Therefore, the HHFN will operate with the assistance of volunteers worldwide who wish to rebuild and assist Nepal.
For domestic and foreign tourists, scientists and researchers, Ilam can be a fascinating place to find aromatic plants, rare birds, orchids and pandas. The most prominent aspect is that Ilam is the epicenter of tea exporters to many parts of Australia, Europe, and the United States of America. The cash crops like tea, cardamom, potato, ginger, broom grass, and dairies like milk products such as chhurpi, cheese local delectable lollipops are some of the finest products which are manufactured and exported abroad and to various regions of Nepal, Hence serving as a significant source of revenue and occupation of the local people here.
For Volunteers, Ilam serves as a golden opportunity for working with local families at the tea garden and also the stages of plantations, harvesting and enjoying cups of fresh and organic tea from tea leaves of the local playground. They can further engage in activities like charity work, gardening, farm stay and supporting locals in preparing family meals, helping around the house of the locals, and engaging in teaching and raising awareness and knowledge of the community here. Ilam is the sustainability hub with its farming methods, and volunteers can engage with a program while they stay cozy in accommodations with freshly prepared local and organic meals.
