Sustainable gardening

Summary

HHFN invites international volunteers in Nepal to participate in horticulture, refining the local environment, deciphering and resolving local problems and generating spaces that are the basic foundation of glory for locals as well as the volunteers.

The objective of this project is to help already planted plant species to grow at ease so that they can contribute to not only food and nutrition but also wide-ranging social, economic and environmental welfare to the locals. The project works as an entry point to empower the Bijaynagar community to manage natural biodiversity while promoting tree plantation and gardening to preserve local ecosystems.

Background, Work Responsibilities & Impacts

This Gardening work camp project takes place in Bijaynagar, a small and peaceful village situated in the western part of the Chitwan district. The gardens are just as important as our houses and need as much care and consideration as we put into the maintenance of our own houses. Being a nature buff, gardening is the best and healthiest habit you can develop since you get to build your strength, boost your happiness, reduce stress, combat Eco anxiety, improve memory and fight diseases.

As a garden volunteer in Nepal, you will have the opportunity to work in our amazing Nursery situated at Bijaynagar village. Your work responsibilities include planting, sorting seeds, pruning, forming boundaries, or assisting communities to raise their own produce on some of our plots. You may also come within reach of visitors who want general gardening tips or ideas. This is also indeed a great way to share your love for horticulture.

You will work about 5/6 hours a day, 2/3 hours in the morning 8 to 10/11 and 2/3 hours in the evening 4 to 6/7 according to the demand of the project and work camp season.  You will also gain unparalleled experience in the area of nature conservation. These 15 days will be undoubtedly the most precious and cherished moments of your entire life as you will immerse yourself in amazing Nepalese culture, learn Nepali language, make life-long Nepali friends, and taste various types of local Nepalese dishes and homemade drinks, providing you with an experience of a lifetime.
