Volunteer Responsibilities & Impacts

After joining this amazing Nepal volunteer program, you will live in rural communities to lead a research project where you record and report demographic data. You will, at first, prepare questionnaire on the particular field of your research & conduct surveys & interviews to collect data from the residents and other possible fields. A translator will be provided to assist the volunteer with data collection. The volunteer will create a simple electronic database, enter the data, and then make that data available both electronically and on paper to entities in Nepal and abroad.

The research program is indeed very beneficial for you and the communities you work for. Your research findings will help identify the real problems of Nepalese communities and help eradicate those problems by planning and executing possible solutions. Skills and Qualifications

To join this Nepal Research Volunteer Program, there are no special skills and qualifications required. You must be above 18 or equivalent, however, and should have a deep passion for living and working with the Nepalese rural communities. Being flexible, open-minded, humble and a strong will to work in real world situation are also major requirements to be a part of this project.

Volunteer Schedule

When you arrive in Nepal, our airport representative picks you up at the airport and transfers to your accommodation. The next morning, our project coordinator gives you an orientation about the country, safety procedures, Dos and Don’ts along with the general outline of your volunteering in Nepal program. After orientation, you will be taken to your respective project and you will start your volunteer work. There is not such a fixed daily schedule as volunteering works vary every day. Here is sample daily schedule:

  • 7.30 AM​: Enjoy your delicious breakfast at your accommodation.

  • 8.45 AM:  You will commute to your placement and engage in surveys, interviews and data collection activities. 

  • 12.00 PM: Lunch

  • 3.00 PM: Work at the placement usually ends. Volunteers are free to travel home, prepare for the next day or do some shopping and sightseeing.

  • 7.30 PM: Dinner.

Accommodation and Meal

While volunteering in Nepal with HHFN, you will stay with a safe, caring, cozy and humble host family in your placement area. In most situations, you will be sharing rooms with volunteers of the same gender participating in the same program. Three meals a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner) will be provided during your stay. The food is prepared in local style. The main types of food will be rice, lentil soup and vegetables.

Free Time and Weekend Exploration 

The research volunteer program in Nepal will allow you plenty of free time during week days and two days weekend of to explore the best of Nepal. You will generally work 5 hours a day from Monday to Friday. During your free time, you can visit the Chitwan National park, Tharu villages, Elephant breeding centers and many more exciting places nearby Chitwan. Also during your weekends, you can travel to the captivating Nepalese cities like Pokhara, Kathmandu, Hetauda, Kakani and more.
