The weekly fees for your chosen Nepal volunteering program include weekly supervision of your program and accommodation &meal plans during the course of your volunteering period. While in Nepal, you will stay with a meticulously evaluated host family nearby your placement, providing you a healthy and affordable way to commute to your project.
Host Family
The host family accommodation in Nepal will be a safe, comfy, clean, healthy and a home away from home for you. Staying with a host family in Nepal is indeed an exclusive, eye- opening and life-changing opportunity for you as you get to have culturally immersive experience first-hand. The families are warm-welcoming, caring, educated, cultured, well- mannered, experienced with international volunteers, well-aware of your needs, wishes and necessary requisites and certainly will treat you as a member of their own family. Once you arrive, we will personally match you with a host family based on your needs and personal interests for your utmost safety, convenience, comfort and satisfaction. The host family will warmly welcome you in their home and offer delicious local Nepalese food in a pleasant environment along with other required facilities with great care, responsibility and attention. Many of the host families have children. You will enjoy helping them with their English, learn to cook Nepali food and mixing in with their life. By joining our volunteering programs in Nepal and making a difference while also getting hands-on work experience, you will experience this country in a different mode.
You will get an amazing opportunity to soak up its majesties,celebrative Nepali festivals, learn and practice Nepalese language and definitely creating bond and a home away from home that will cherish all your life. You will understand and avoid cross-cultural shocks, broaden your thinking horizon and improve your intercultural understandings. As most of the host-families are directly connect with the projects, you will understand the real problems and of the communities you serve and also the real solutions to their problems. The families will escort and give you a better insight of the project. While staying with a host-family to volunteer in Nepal, you can expect to be comfortable with a clean and cozy bed and bedding materials, free WIFI (depending on the host), electricity and clean western or traditional style restroom with running tap water. Depending on the availability, you will live in single or shared room. While volunteering in Nepal project, you will do your laundry yourself.
Please be reminded that staying with host families are never meant to be like staying in hotel. It is therefore important to follow the family rules during all times. This is also a noble gesture that shows you respect your host family and appreciate their hospitality.
Rules for volunteers while living with host family
- Please do not use alcohol or any kind of drugs while volunteering in Nepal program and staying with your host family. If your host family asks you to take alcohol, please take it with care, as most of the locally made alcohols are very strong.
- Most Nepali people are Hindus and hence cows are considered sacred. So, please do not consume any dry beef meat or ask for it. The Nepalese society is very conservative (not influenced by western culture).
- Please dress modestly and avoid any kind of dating or romantic activities with any members of the host family.
- Please do not use facilities of the host family (TV, radio, VCR, bike, etc.) without their permission. Always keep your doors closed when you go out.
- Please clean all your clothes and dishes yourself.

Host-Family Accommodation Meals
Living with a host family while in Nepal volunteer program is a surefire way to feel like a real Nepalese local. HHFN guarantees a hygienic and enriching meal experience for all volunteers. You will enjoy 3/4 meals a day in the morning, day and evening. You will wake up every morning to the smell of traditional Nepalese breakfast consisting tea/coffee, bread, puff, biscuits, fruits and more. During the day and evening, you will usually have rice, lentil soup and curry which the staple food in Nepal. Other than this you will also have the option to have Chow Men, Pasta, fried rice, noodles, etc. Our host families can also cook vegan or vegetarian and can take allergies or diets into account. Rice, lentil and vegetables are the national food and dumplings, Chow-men, noodle, dry bread, etc. are favorite snacks for Nepalese. Drinking tap water while volunteering in Nepal is not a wise choice as it may cause diarrhea, thus, we suggest you to drink either boiled or purified bottle water. If you wish to eat out, there are many eateries, cafes and restaurants available nearby your placement.
